Hello friends!
I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!
On my social media I asked family and friends on what they would like to see me clean between my bathroom and kitchen. Many requested for me to clean my bathroom and few suggested that I clean my kitchen. Since it's the holidays, I decided I can do both, but would film the bathroom one first.

A little background on my love of cleaning.
I wasn't always a fan of cleaning, in fact I hated it! Growing up, every Saturday morning I would be awaken by Salsa or Merengue music. I knew my mom was already cleaning and shortly I would be too. My mother is a cleaning queen. She could clean your carpet so well that you would be able to see your own reflection! All I wanted to do was to watch cartoons, not clean the bathroom or my bedroom. But my mother insisted that I learned how to clean properly because one day I will have my own house and I need to take pride in my home.
In my 20s I decided that I really didn't like always having a messy room and I loved to organized everything. I would help my mom with her house and then I met my husband. When we moved in with each other, my love of cleaning sky rocketed. Our little apartment was something I always wanted to make sure it look nice incase company were to company over, and just for general satisfaction. Now in my home, I find myself listening to the same music my mom did on those Saturday mornings, and get into my cleaning rhythm.

How this 'Clean with Me' came about.
About two years ago, I was on YouTube and trying to find something good to watch. I ended up stumbling upon "Clean and Decorate with Me" videos, and soon enough I was down the rabbit hole. Many of these women homes were big and beautifully decorated. I would watch hours upon hours of them cleaning and decorating their own homes, but I would always noticed they never cleaned like how my mama taught me.
It would annoy me that when someone was vacuuming, they wouldn't move a rug or piece of furniture. I could already hear my mom saying, "If you don't move that, all the bunny-dust will move there". Bunny-dust is her way of saying Dust bunny. I would shout at the T.V. like one would do when watching a sporting event, "move the lamp!" or "you are only moving the dust bunnies around!". My husband would ask me why didn't I just film myself and share with the world how I clean.
At the time I was recording myself cooking. I was already comfortable in front of the camera, and had a small following of "Gisela's Ratchet Kitchen". I ended up recording at least three episodes of cleaning our apartment, but never did anything with them. The fear of being criticized of how I clean was always at the forefront. With my cooking show, it was more comical. Even though my mother tried to teach me how to cook, I never really bothered to learn, and I wasn't forced to cook like I was to clean. When your an adult, and the only thing you know how to cook is rice, you start to want to learn how to prepare other meals. I decided I would document my journey and share it with my friends. Cleaning, that was something I mastered. It is an art that I learned through my mother, and if I upload it on YouTube, I may be made fun of, or worse, come under the scrutiny of my mother's white glove.
Now two years later, I have finally filmed and edited my first cleaning video. Of course I am scared over internet trolls, but I know I'm not the only one who cleans like this. It's not like some ancient Colombian cleaning secret that was kept hidden for years....right?

What I use to clean.
I clean in clothing I don't mind getting ruined by chemicals. This means some old joggers my D.A.R.E. shirt I got back in 2005, and flip flops. I have a few cleaning shirts, but I just like my D.A.R.E. shirt since it is for the most part white and it really cant get discolored (unless I paint with and my paint brush falls smack dab in the front).
I use a netted yellow scrub brush for my sink, tub, and toilet. I don't like using a toilet brush because I don't think they do a good job at cleaning, plus it only cleans the bowl. With my sponge, I can clean inside the bowl, the seat, and the exterior. I get a new sponge every month, so the cost to replace a 99 cent sponge is far cheaper than to replace a $5 brush. I also like to use a toothbrush while I clean. I use a dog tooth brush because it is dual ended, and I find that they clean better than a human tooth brush. The tooth brush is brand new, and I replace them when the bristles are all matted down from scrubbing. The reason why I use a toothbrush is because it helps me get in the grout and cleans better that my sponge in certain places.
In my apartment I used paper towels, but in my home, and trying to be a more conscious consumer, I use cleaning cloths/rags. My mom gifted me some of her favorite rags, and I bought a few from Target, and even cut up old towels and wash cloths.
I have recently gravitated towards using Mrs. Meyers and Method cleaning products. I like that it doesn't have a harsh chemical cleaning scent. I do use Clorox products like their toilet bowl cleaner and wipes. For the bathtub I use any bathtub cleaning product. I do prefer to ones that have bleach in it, but as long as you use elbow grease you can clean your tube with pretty much any product. I also use a daily shower cleaner (I like Method) to help prevent to a degree soap scum buildup. Every few months I will replace my shower liner. I have found that quality shower liners are worth it. I used to spend about a dollar on liners, but they would get moldy quickly. I now purchase a liner that is a little thicker than the 99 cent ones and can last a good three months before changing them out. It also helps to spray them down with water and a daily shower cleaner after you bathe to help ward off mold. You can clean your liner if you want when you clean your tub, but I find this more tedious and time consuming than to just replace it.
Finally I use a broom and mop. I got my broom off of Amazon and my mop from Target. I don't like using Swifter (although we do own one) because I find that it just moves the dust around, defeating the whole cleaning purpose. My mop head is soft microfiber that works beautifully. It came with a bucket, but ever since I found Method Squirt and Spray, I hardly use the bucket. It also dries quicker on my floor.
Final Thoughts
I had fun filming and editing this for you all. I didn't spend any money on video editing products, I used my cell phone to record, a tripod, and free music from YouTube. Filming this was harder than my cooking ones because of how much I move and not really capturing everything like I had hoped.
Maybe later down the road, I will invest in a good editing tool. I do have a camera, but can't find the battery charger (whoops!). If you have found my cleaning video helpful, I would love to hear from you. Or if you have some helpful advice, I would welcome it.
Thank you so much for reading and watching my very first YouTube video. I hope you have a beautiful day!
